The Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979, was enacted to regulate the condition of service of inter-state migrant workmen and to provide for their welfare.
This act applies to every establishment in which 5 or more inter-state migrant workmen are employed or were employed on any day of the preceding twelve months. Both the Principal Employer and the Contractor must obtain registration/license under this Act.
